Description
Gelede foot rattles made of iron. Matt, dark brown patina. Ankle bracelet with two semi-circular housings. In one of the housings there are two small balls which produce the rattling sound, the second housing has a hole, its balls are not existent anymore. Two small conic hangers are attached to one ending of the rattle. About three to four rattles of this kind are worn by a Yoruba dancer during a Gelede ritual. Togther with a Gelede helmet mask (the mask can also be purchased, see catalogue number 38-23) and a robe they depict the traditional Gelede costume (see shikra photos, Henning Christoph "Gelede dance").
