A "brick" baked from camwood powder. A rare example of "primitive money". Camwood powder mixed with palm-oil was also used by the Kuba to smear onto their bodies and was stored in elaborately designed boxes (see shikra cat.no. 14-03).
The collection number "157.233" is painted onto the back of the money and would appear to have come from the same collection as shikra catalogue number 14-65.
