| The artwork was exhibited in Bonn (Germany) at the "Deutsch Nigerianischen Gesellschaft e.V.", Bonn, together with the "Goethe-Institut" Lagos in July 1989. Ekong Emmanuel Ekefrey - born in 1952 in Niiya Ibom State, Nigeria. A self trained artist from the Ibibio people in south east Nigeria. His father was a famous carver.
One of the most striking characteristics of Ekefrey's paintings is the use of large-sized canvases left unstretched. His artistic style is reminiscent of Mexican wall-paintings.
The artist first draws his figures on the canvas; then he paints them, using industrial pigments, or recently, using oil paints.
Ekefrey's work has been exhibited in numerous European Arts Centres as well as the USA. |
