Akua'ba or "Wednesdays' child" is a fertility doll of the Asante. They are created to fulfil a woman's' wish for an uncomplicated birth and a healthy child. For this they are "blessed" by a diviner and carried on the back of a woman like a real child. After childbirth they could be dedicated to the deity, placed on an altar or shrine or given to a young girl as a toy. |
