Description
This rare fetish figure from clay comes from the fetish market in Lomé, the capital of Togo. The fetish is empowered the owl feathers that are inserted into holes in the head which serve to protect people from witchcraft. Below the feathers is a "tail" made of animal hair. The eyes are indicated by two cavities and the mouth by a small hole. Pieces of bones have been inserted into the figure, the meaning of which is unknown. The white kaolin has partially flaked off.
