Description
Wood, polychromatic paint, plant fibres, a wide facial plane painted with triangular and striped patterns, narrow slit eyes underneath curved eyebrows, flanking a triangular nose, and a rhomboid shaped mouth. The face is completely framed by long curved horns, the backside is covered with fabric decorated with fur, cowrie shells and glass beads, circular hole in the top of the mask, covered with plant fibre. Minimal damage, original repair (horns), slight signs of abrasion
Maske like this were used in the "nkaan" initiation ritesamong the Kuba who live near to the Kete. As such the mask can be found in Bushoong as well as in Kete villages.
