Description |
 |
Collected in 1953 in the former Belgium Congo.
Drinking horns are a perogative of Kuba warriors and are used for drinking palm wine. When not in use they are displayed suspended from a cord at the waist. The surface designs are borrowed from the scarification patterns that decorate the torsos of Kuba women.
The horn has had an additional hole cut into the middle possibly converting it into a music horn. There are also three holes at the narrow end of the horn.
