Collected in-situ in the 1950's.
A finely carved, small face mask "Acali" from the Igbo in Nigeria. The carver has used brown tones to create various geometrical patterns. The eyes are square (small missing part, left eye), the nose is cylindrical, again brown tones create an extra dimension.
Such masks were used in okumkpa performances in the Igbo town of Afikpo and surrounding villages in southeastern Nigeria.
