Infection clinic - Dar-es-Salaam - Walther Dobbertin
Price: 0,00 EUR
Official documents and sources to Walther Dobbertin (born 1882 in Berlin, died in 1961 in Jesteburg, south of Hamburg) can be difficult to find, but the information is scanty on his life and work. However, he has left a huge number of photographs from his time in German East Africa (now Tanzania, Burundi and Rwanda), where he emigrated in 1903, and where he developed to the most important photographer of German East Africa. In Dar-es-Salaam, Tanga and Moschi he led book and art shops until 1916, the year of his English captivity.
As a commercial photographer in German East Africa prior to World War I, Dobbertin became the only combat photographer during the East African campaign on the German side. He performed this function till his own capture in 1916.
