Tribal Treasures from Nigeria & Tanzania - Wolf Nickel
Paperback
Language - English
Pages - 67
The catalogue "TRIBAL TREASURES FROM NIGERIA & TANZANIA" presents, as the name implies, rare, old pieces
from Nigeria (Benue region) and the area in and around Tanzania. The pieces are from a German private collection. The sculptures consist of old, little known Mumuye, Mada, Montol, Eggon and Mambila figures as well as Igala helmet masks and a very old Jukun shoulder mask from Nigeria. Tanzania is represented by a very expressive Pare sculpture, a Sukuma pair, as well as pieces from the Luguru, Kaguru and Sagara. An elegant Nyamwezi figure and the Pare skulpture are strongly reminiscent of the classic European modern.
The catalogue is limited to photos. The cultural origin of the pieces are listed in the appendix.
Provenances and Yale archive numbers are also listed when available. |
